Cambridge Sculptors - making a virtue out of variety

Cambridge Sculptors - 3D art to the power of nine

Cambridge Sculptors is a grouping of nine local artists based in and around Cambridge England who share a passion for carving stone and modelling clay. Their individual styles and approaches may be diverse, but they are united by the fact that they all work under the guidance of sculptor Esther Joseph at Cambridge Artworks. Esther, a highly-regarded local artist, inspired them to 'go it alone' with their first sculpture exhibition entitled 'Hands-On' at Trinity Hall College Cambridge in 2001. They have since gone from strength to strength, showing their work both as individuals and as a group at Cambridge Open Studios and at several regional venues including the Fulbourn Festival.

They have each discovered that sculpting stone and modelling clay can be an exhilarating release from the pressures of daily life. Working together at Esther Joseph's studio has allowed them to learn from one and other, sharing ideas and critiques. In search of inspiration, they have made group visits to the world-famous marble quarries at Carrara in Tuscany, as well as to Rome and Barcelona.
